A Heat Fan

We are very excited about our new AHL hockey team the Abbotsford Heat. Unfortunatly, they are affiliated with the Calgary Flames, but we can get past that. We love that we can go watch great hockey, five minutes away from home and because it is so close (and reasonably priced compared to the Canucks) Ethan can enjoy it with us. Here we are at the second game of the season against the San Antonio Rampage (Phoenix Coyotes affiliate). Ethan went to this game with him Grandpa and Daddy.

Harmony??!!

Making music together has never been so fun! I guess when you don't have a sibling you work with what you've got!

Ethan learns to ride a bike without training wheels

Ethan has always talked about taking the training wheels off his bike when he turned four so he could do tricks. So we thought we would go with it and try and teach him. We took him to the field across from our house, thinking the grass would provide him with some extra stability and a soft landing. Here are some pictures of our attempts.

Our Ultrasound

We had our second ultrasound on Wednesday, September 23 at 1pm. The baby is 20 weeks. All of us were able to be there and see baby, so that was exciting for us. Here are the pictures taken by the technician.

This first picture is the profile. The technician warned us that she wasn't able to get a very good profile shot because of the way the baby was positioned, but I thought this one was pretty good.

This one is of the babies feet. I love the feet!

This image is of the back and spine. I thought this one was really amazing. I couldn't believe the detail that was visible.

This picture, we believe, is an arm and hand, seen from the pinky side. Let us know if you have any other ideas. It took us awhile to come to this conclusion.

Ethan Goes To School

Ethan started preschool today. The excitement continued to build over the past weeks as we discussed how special it was to be going to school for the first time. Then yesterday, Ethan realized that he was going to have to go to school without his mom and dad and suddenly school didn't look so great anymore. This morning, however he had mixed emotions and although he was still a little hesitant about the whole thing, he was excited to get ready to go. He chose his own outfit, a new back-to-school long-sleeve button down shirt and jeans and he wore his velcro shoes, so he could put them on and off himself. He packed himself a snack in his new Quatchi (Vancouver 2010 Olympic mascot) backpack and had a special going-to-school lunch, macaroni and cheese. We took lots of pictures and headed off. Things were looking good.

We arrived early, signed in, found Ethan's shoe bag and picture (he is in the orange class) and were ready and waiting for the classroom door to open. Arriving early, however was not the best idea as now Ethan had time to think...and cling. He started with the "I want to go home" and "I don't like school anymore" all while holding my leg tighter and tighter. Finally the doors opened, but he had no plans of going in without me. We ended up playing kitchen together for a few moments, then Mrs Braun (so lovely) came to talk with Ethan. She took out some puzzles and he began to play (with one eye on me of course). Another little girl came to watch and I offered her my chair at the table. After a few moments, I stepped out. I felt bad leaving without telling him, but knew I wouldn't get away any other way. I was surprised by how emotional I was.

Two and a half hours later, I was back to pick him up. I was able to peak in the door window and see him sitting on the carpet listening to a story. When the door opened he was the first one out and gave me a big hug. He had a great time. His teacher confirmed that there had been no problems. Yeah!!! Success!!! Memories made and a very BIG milestone accomplished!

Weekend in Whistler

We spent September long weekend in Whistler. Friends joined us for a day and a night and although our peak-to-peak gondola plans were put on hold due to poor weather (very low cloud cover), we had a great time shopping in the village and walking the trails around Lost Lake.

On our last day, the weather changed for the better and we enjoyed playing mini-golf (Ethan hit a hole-in-one) and luge riding at the base of Blackcomb Mountian. It was a nice break before heading back to work.
