Ethan Rides to School in a Firetruck.
During Fire Safety week back in October, we visited the fire station, as they were putting on an event for the community. In addition to the games, they had a silent auction to raise money for the Burn Fund. We bid on riding to school in a firetruck and won. So on Nov. 24, Ethan was picked up by Fireman Martin and Fireman Spencer and driven around the block on his way to school. Once they arrived, the fireman spoke to all of the students in Ethan's preschool class about fire safety and invited them all to take turns sitting in the firetruck. The firemen treated Ethan to a special Abbotsford Fireman hat and teddy bear. It was pretty exciting although Ethan was a bit nervous.

Grandpa's Visit
Grandpa came out for a quick weekend visit on Nov. 20 - 22. Ethan was so excited he was coming, but by the time Grandpa got in, late Friday night, Ethan was in bed. Ethan knew Grandpa would be at the house when he woke up on Saturday, so he was up bright and early, waiting for Grandpa outside of his door. Chloe was waiting too.
They didn't have to wait too long because grandpa was eager to see them too. Grandpa brought Ethan a giant tub of Tinker Toys as a surprise. They spent the morning building together and created a big car with a propeller and all.
We took Grandpa to an Abbotsford Heat game that night. Ethan and Grandpa cheered loudly for the Heat and had a great time together (I was surprised either of them had a voice after the game ended).
The next day, we watched football and played trains. Grandpa, Reuben and Ethan put an elaborate train track together while they watched.
Ethan enjoyed spending time with Grandpa and asks all the time when he is coming back to play.

Matt and Nik's Birthday Party
Ethan was invited to help Matt and Nik celebrate their 4th birthday party at the Semiahmoo Family Place in Surrey. They had lots to do there, from a giant bouncy castle with a slide to a play kitchen and lego tables. The theme was John Deere tractors and the highlight was definitely hitting the pinata. Ethan enjoyed himself and Matt and Nik had a great time too!

Visit to BC Women's Hospital
We had our ultrasound at BC Women's Hospital on Tuesday, November 17 (see the pictures below). We were well taken care of , had an hour and fifteen minute ultrasound and spoke with two specialists. The fetal cardiologist believes the heart issue is being caused by an enlarged valve hitting the wall of the heart and causing missed beats, but would like to look into this further. We also spoke with a fetal specialists regarding a new concern in the babies head. Apparently, the left ventricle in the babies brain is enlarged and they would like to look into this further as well. So, these two issues will take us back to BC Women's Hospital for a further Echo and ultrasound on Dec. 8.

Request for your prayers
After a routine pregnancy check-up today, I am asking for your prayers. Two, hopefully insignificant, issues came up at my appointment today. The first is I am measuring about 4 weeks further along than I am (no I am not having twins) so one of the concerns is the possibility of gestational diabetes. I had blood work (after a horrible orange crush like drink) today to check into this and should know the results by Thursday. The second (potentially bigger) issue is the baby had missed heart beats today while the doctor was trying to get a beats per minute reading. I am scheduled to see the doctor again on Monday as a follow up, but they are also sending me to BC Women's Hospital in Vancouver (not looking forward to that drive) this week for an Echo (Ultrasound on the babies heart). Not sure what they will find or what they can do about it, but I should know what is going on by next week.
Thanks for your prayers,
Julie
