Jonas is officially a roller!
Jonas started rolling over on Friday, July 16 while Reuben was watching the boys and I was out...go figure. I wasn't even there to witness this accomplishment, which is crazy considering how few hours a week I am actually away from Jonas. Thankfully, he was willing to show off his new skill the next day, and the next, and the next... He does it so easily now, its hard to believe there was even a time he wasn't rolling... and then the arm gets stuck. For some reason, he has one arm that periodically acts outside the realm of his control. It happens when he is trying to move from his tummy to his back and only after successfully rolling onto his tummy. It seems he forgets sometimes that he needs to bring this arm in closer to his body before he pushes with his legs. He gets pretty upset with the situation and pushes so hard with his legs it looks like he's about to dislocate his arm. Yikes!!

Our Soccer Player
Ethan started soccer through the Abbotsford Soccer Association this summer. He plays every Tuesday and Thursday evening through the summer and then on Saturdays until the season is over in November. He is in the U6 division on Wee Kickers and looks so cute in his uniform! The night these pictures were taken, he scored 7 goals!!
Ethan's favourite fan!

The Unnatural Positions of Jonas
Jonas is so interested in the world around him now. He gazes at people and follows sounds, often firing a look of confusion at a new sight or unfamiliar noise. He is so curious that he'll move his body in rather unnatural ways just to get a closer look. Lately, his favoured position is viewing things upside down. He pushes back with his feet and just lets his head hang down over your arm. Any attempt to lift him up is met with a stiffened body and another push with his legs...too funny...

Beach day!!
I have a love-hate relationship with the heat...I love it when, like today, we can enjoy spending time at White Rock Beach with friends...thanks Michelle for the pictures...
...but hate that we came home to a house that was 33 degrees INSIDE. It was so hot in Abbotsford, Ethan's soccer practice was canceled. Ugh!! Putting kids to bed in temperatures of this magnitude, especially an infant that still thinks he needs to be swaddled to sleep (BTW any tips on transitioning him away from that would be gratefully received), is miserable (for them and me). I did come home to Reuben installing an AC in our bedroom...I love him...cooler nights ahead!

A CRIME HAS BEEN COMMITTED!!!
Summer has officially arrived!! The temperatures in Abbotsford sent the mercury rising this week, catapulting us from spring into summer and apparently breaking a local record on Wednesday with a sweaty 33 C (the previous record was 32.2 C set in 1953). As you can imagine, the heat sent us in search of ways to cool off. So, in the afternoon, we decided to fill up our inflatable pool...what better way to stay cool than to take a dip in the ridiculously cold water from our garden hose. We also inflated our Hawaiian ABC Store floaties (...best $1.50 ever spent) and an infant, crab-shaped, flotation toy that we picked up when Ethan was still a baby. We had fun that afternoon, performing 'swim-like' activities and left it all out in the yard with plans to enjoy it just as much the next day. Unfortunately that night, an unforgivable crime was committed and never again will we enjoy these precious providers of summertime fun.
This is what we woke up to:
Did Reuben let the air out? It quickly became clear he had not. Large gouges had been viciously removed from each of the toys, with the crab experiencing the worst of the damage.
Who could have performed such evil acts?
My first thought was the neighbors cat. While I was disappointed that our toys had been destroyed, I was inwardly chuckling at the thought of their cat innocently leaping up onto what must have appeared to be a solid surface, only to splash down into the depths of the pool and then violently try to save himself by grasping at whatever might have provided him with a way to hoist his drenched body out. I actually caught myself wishing I could have witnessed the struggle...oh, come on, your laughing at the thought, too! Its not that I hate cats, I actually quite like them, but this one has been taunting Chloe for about a year now and I was hoping he finally got what was coming to him...karma kitty!
But, after examining the enormous size of the gouges and the excessive number of them...I mean we are talking intent to kill, not simply a struggle for survival...I knew there was more to it than a cats accidental encounter with its nemesis. And that's when another piece of evidence was discovered... a raccoon-like foot print on top of a backyard garbage can.
All at once, the pieces of this mysterious puzzle fell into place... Raccoon enters the yard, maybe with friends, and encounters a beady eyed crab that must have thrown a terrifying look of challenge in his direction. The rest, as they say, is history! 1 for Raccoon, 0 for Inflatable crab and ABC Store floaties.

The Bumbo
The new must have baby product is a Bumbo chair and while I was skeptical at first, I love it. Jonas loves his new perspective of the world and in the pre-sitting phase, one can never have enough 'places' for baby to spend time. I bought this one used on e-bay (because really, $70??!!!), but when it arrived Ethan wanted to know what I had bought a 'girl' colour. I was honest and told him, "because it cost me $20." :) Got to love a good deal!!
